When Shirley learnt she was terminally ill in late July, her palliative care options were at home, or hospices in Southampton or Basingstoke. The latter were simply not an option, given her beloved husband Ken's immobility. This led her to express the wish that any donations from friends and family, in lieu of flowers, go towards establishing the Winchester Hospice - so her local friends will have a closer resource for in- and out-patient palliative care in the future.
